A Declaration of War on Cupcakes
Today is a dark day. A day that will live in infamy. Searches for "cupcakes" have overtaken searches for "bacon". The world turned upside down.

This cannot stand. This will not stand. This is a wake-up call to every honest man or woman, of sound constitution and character, clear-eyed, and strong of body and will, to resist this rapacious scourge on our families, towns, nation -- and our very species.
I hereby pledge that I will not rest until this odious state of perversion is reversed, and cupcakes are knocked from their pedestal of adulation.
Join me. Join the fight. Not simply a battle for your waist line. BUT A WAR TO SAVE OUR HUMANITY. No surrender, no mercy.
And so it begins...

John, the war has indeed
John, the war has indeed begun... and there are already traitors in our midst...I feel you should be made aware of the new 'bacon-chocolate gourmet cupcakes.' And I'm not kidding, saw them today at a place in Madison WI where I had a great avacado/ground beef omolet! This is bad. The forces of good aren't fighting the forces of evil... THEY'VE JOINED TEAMS!!! personally I couldn't think of a more terrible combination (paleo or no) but I guess people really dig em. Idunno, this is either complete blasphemy (spellcheck) or a small step in the right direction for cupcakes... either way, I thought you would find this interesting given your position on the two
Too funny! Just a few days
Too funny!
Just a few days ago, I blogged that I believe a high-fat diet helps keep you warm.
Bacon: it keeps you from shakin.'
Well, your post might be
Well, your post might be tongue-in-cheek - but it is very true that people need to understand the effects of something as seemingly innocuous as cupcakes. Only in the last few years have I realized how much cupcakes are pefect examples of feeding people 'fillers.'I very much appreciate what I have learned by reading more about the Paleo lifestyle. I had an idea back around 2000 that eating wheat was not worth the return on investment of calories consumed. The nutrients are low - but more importantly, this filler food displaces what we could have been eating if we had chosen more wisely!I effortlessly dropped thirty pounds once I figured out that Paleo was far superior to eating foods that our bodies are not engineered to process efficiently. At any rate! I love your story and I love the fact that you are pointing out a problem with our focus (as a country). I never could understand people spending a ton of money on cupcakes or donuts! It really doesn't make any sense at all. Keep up the great work!
Yesterday, In Georgetown,
Yesterday, In Georgetown, Washington DC, the line at Georgetown Cupcake literally ran around the block. In the meantime, my daughter and I had dined at Farmers and Fishers and had chocolate-covered bacon lollipops. So we did our part in bringing about bacon dominance. I think the upsurge in cupcake searches may have been from Washington tourists looking for another cupcake house as they waited in frigid temperatures on a windy street. When we saw them waiting, we commented that gluten must definitely be addicting if people would wait that long in the cold for cupcakes :)
Maybe this trend can all be
Maybe this trend can all be explained quite simply by considering who is doing the searching. The cupcake crowd are all searching for their next, great sugar high, while the bacon gang are searching no longer, and instead are resting comfortably with a belly full of saturated fat goodness having already found their 'Paleovana'. Just a thought.
