Paleo pantry or bomb shelter?

All those suckers in the grocery store went right for the tuna fish.

That's exactly what I was

That's exactly what I was eating on Sunday (that brand of sardines).  Not because I lost power, mind you.  I just didn't feel like cooking.  I prefer the ones packed in water to the other varieties.  I was planning on making beef jerky and ghee, but that didn't pan out.

I never realized just how

I never realized just how naturally well prepared I am. I keep coconut milk in stock all the time, and thanks to my husband's former sardine obsession, we have over a dozen cans just sitting around. Plus, I keep clams and oysters and canned salmon in the cupboard for oh-shit-I-forgot-to-plan-something meals, and I keep a couple of Tanka bars laying around in case I have to go somewhere and don't know if I'll have access to good food or not. Not to mention  all of the coconut oil, ghee, and nut butters that I always have stocked. I usually keep 2-3 gallons of spring water around in case I randomly decide to make bone broth, and about another gallon worth of mineral water.  Hell, that's enough to go for about a week if we're moderately rationing!

 I think pemmican would be

I think pemmican would be the ultimate pantry survival food.  Lots of good calories, pretty nutritious, and apparently lasts indefinitely.

Nice choice of sards!!!

Nice choice of sards!!!  those wild planet ones are the best.  mmmm

John, I was just thinking the

John, I was just thinking the same thing! I already had a case of sardines, a case of mackerel, a case of cocconut milk, and a 3 cases of water--that's what I have on a normal day. I only went to the store for avocados and organic almonds, and couldn't help chuckling at the tuna--and chips, lots and lots of chips!--that everyone else was clutching.

I think my cupboard looks

I think my cupboard looks exactly the same.  I just hope I don't lose power. If that happens I might just have to  read a book, or something.

What exactly do all these

What exactly do all these people thronging the stores think is going to happen - the end of the world? It's not like the east coast is 8 feet beow sea level like New Orleans (though the "leadership" seems just as stupid). Hurricane Agnes in (IIRC) 1972 ran straight over my hometown, and we spent it playing in the streets that turned into 6" deep streams for a couple of days. (Granted we weren't right on the coast, but still.) I saw a stat that as of about 2 hours ago a grand total of 370,000 had evacuated New York. Out of what, 8 million? I predict at most some inconveniences. If there's any danger, it'll be from looters (if things get bad enough to embolden them).

yeah, my main issue was

yeah, my main issue was losing electricity and internet for a few days. I need to get stuff done. I actually wish I could have hung out in the city while it happened

Besides, if worst comes to

Besides, if worst comes to worst what's more paleo than eating floating bodies you snatch from the waterlogged streets below?

 I don't know...they're

 I don't know...they're probably grain-fed.

Nice! Here's hoping that

Nice! Here's hoping that Irene peters out by then.

 I'm jealous!  I have some

I'm jealous!  I have some cans of tuna but that's about it for now.
